LAFD Heroism and WUI Design Standards Withstand Nature’s Ultimate Test
Malibu, CA – On December 9, 2024, the Franklin Fire put the resilience of Malibu and its structures to the ultimate test. At the heart of this trial was THE HOME GALLERY’s downtown Malibu Showroom, which stood strong against the fire’s onslaught, thanks to its fire-rated construction and the tireless efforts of the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LAFD).
The fire reached just feet away from THE HOME GALLERY’s showroom. Yet, the home’s Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) construction standards, combined with its cement board exterior, prevented embers from penetrating or igniting the structure. The remarkable performance of this showroom highlights the importance of building to high fire-resistant standards, particularly in fire-prone areas like Malibu.

“We are profoundly grateful to the LAFD firefighters for their incredible bravery and swift response,” said a spokesperson for THE HOME GALLERY. “Their tireless efforts in containing the Franklin Fire were nothing short of heroic. Coupled with the WUI standards of our homes, this partnership between human determination and superior construction has once again proven vital in protecting our community.”
Designed with durability and elegance in mind, THE HOME GALLERY’s homes incorporate cement board exteriors and other WUI-compliant features. These measures ensure the structures are not only aesthetically stunning but also equipped to face the increasing threats posed by wildfires.
A Commitment to Safety and Resilience
The Franklin Fire serves as a reminder of the ever-present danger of wildfires in California and the importance of adopting fire-rated construction standards. THE HOME GALLERY’s showroom stands as a testament to the effectiveness of WUI construction, proving that homes can be both luxurious and capable of weathering the harshest conditions.
“We’re proud to offer solutions that empower homeowners in high-fire areas to feel safe and secure without compromising on style or functionality,” the spokesperson added.
THE HOME GALLERY remains committed to working with communities across California to provide homes and ADUs that are built to endure. As the region rebuilds and recovers, the company continues to support homeowners in creating spaces that are not only beautiful but also fortified for the future.
